AUGUST 2017 UPDATE

As you can see, I’m not very good at writing updates. I’ll try to improve on that in the future.

I’m nearly finished with adding the SB2C overseas losses from the accident reports to the Overseas Loss database. I’ve decided to work on only the overseas losses from the accident reports at this time. I’ll start back to work on the squadron rosters after I’ve made decent headway on the overseas losses. When I finish with the SB2c losses, I’ll start working on inputting data on the F4F losses.

Chris has recently added the ability for us to link pilot and aircrew photos and Google Map locations to the Overseas Losses database and  pilot and aircrew photos to the Personnel database. For a sample of how that looks, type in Wear, Clinton to the search box in the Overseas Losses database. Now all I have to do is find the time to load coordinates for all of the locations that losses occurred.

So far we only have photos of three pilots to link to the Overseas Losses database. If anyone has photos of pilots or aircrew that they can scan and share with us to add to the databases, we would appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks for checking in on the site.

May 2015 Update

I recently finished updating the BuNo section for SBD losses from the accident reports. Any remaining SBD losses that don’t have any info in the Remarks section are either combat losses that will be picked up as I go through the Squadron Histories and Aircraft Action Reports (AAR) or possibly are planes that were surveyed for other than combat or accident reasons.

I’ve started going through the accident reports for the SB2C, so I’ll slowly be updating the BuNo section for those losses. In addition, I’ll be updating BuPers with some additional squadron rosters in the next few weeks.

Thanks for checking in on the site.

January 2014 Update

I’ve finished updating the BuNo section for TBF/TBM losses from the accident reports. Any remaining TBF/TBM losses that don’t have any info in the Remarks section are either combat losses that will be picked up as I go through the Squadron Histories and Aircraft Action Reports (AAR) or possibly are planes that were surveyed for other than combat or accident reasons. I’ll have to figure out a way to account for those.

I’ve started going through the accident reports for the SBD, so I’ll slowly be updating the BuNo section for those losses.

I’m still plugging away on the VF-11 Squadron History and AARs to update VF-11 in the BuPers section. The reports are very hard to read, so it’s taking a lot longer than I’d like.

Thanks for checking in on the site.

New photos have been added to the “Combat Photos” and “Flight Ops” categories on the photos page. Special thanks to the National Museum of Naval Aviation for these photos. More photos coming soon and as always thanks for stopping by.

Update 5 Jun 13

Information for VF-40 has been updated in BuPers. If you click on a pilots name in BuPers it will take you to his Personal Information Card that lists as much info that we currently have. This includes individual combat missions taken from the Action Reports. This is how we plan on doing all the future squadron additions. If you click on Lt. William Neal’s name, you will see all of his flights listed during his time in the combat zone. This was compiled from the Action Reports & from his Flight Log.

The next squadron we’ll be working on is VB-6. We’re also starting back to work on updating the Overseas Aircraft Losses in the BuNos database.

Thanks for visiting our site & if you have any questions, send us an email.
